Cooler
temperatures and autumn’s vibrantly painted landscape instill a sense of
intrigue and discovery, a precursor to the myriad of events yet to be
refined in the coming months. Apparel and accessories alike transcend
and transform as we encounter these seasonal trends. “Accessories are
selling better than ever for fall, and the customer is embracing color,”
offers Irenka Jakubiak, editor in chief for Accessories magazine.
“Whether she’s wearing opaques, sheers, socks, or fishnets, it’s all
about color on the leg.”
Women’s fashions include a variety of menswear
silhouettes with a flare for femininity. Suit patterns and
accessories feature a diverse pattern of plaids, tweeds, and
herringbone. Accompanying legwear items include tights in sweater
patterns, back seamed hosiery and figure enhancing products.
Regarding shades of color, pink will remain
prevalent, however, and richer, darker tones will move to the forefront.
The green family will feature hues of avocado and even chartreuse.
Yellow, electric blue, orange, red, and gold are popular, particularly
in the junior market. Jakubiak and other key fashion experts agree that
prints and patterns are equally as important as colors in legwear.
Military, embroidery, polka dots, flowers and art nuveou designs adorn
the full gamut along with a continuation of animal safari, snake and
other reptilian species.
Having all these options available can make
shopping a rewarding experience and the accessory departments more
interesting, but it is up to our industry to position hosiery as a fun,
fashion accessory.
Jakubiak asserts the fact that not only does the
customer need to be told what to wear, perhaps more importantly, she
needs to be shown how to wear it.
